What is social wellness?
Social wellness emphasizes building healthy relationships with those in your community and creating strong social support networks. As individuals, we do not exist in a vacuum; we can build a better program and community by actively engaging with those around us. Social wellness emphasizes developing strong communication skills to help foster this community engagement.
For members of the Neuroscience Training Program, supporting social wellness ensures we all have the communication skills necessary to bridge cultural and language barriers within our diverse group of scientists. It additionally helps strengthen our ability to recognize, change, or cope with unhealthy relationships in order to become more successful scientists and community members.
Actively engaging in social wellness includes making time for friends and family, enjoying the time spent with others (i.e. maintaining positive and rewarding relationships), and interacting with those of diverse backgrounds.
